Perfect Day?

My uncle worked in India for most of his career. Eventually, he retired to Eaglesfield and the cooler climes of western Scotland. However, as a banker he never lost the thirst to record everything. So, he kept a diary of life’s goings on.  What he was planting in the garden, village gossip and trips to the local town were all faithfully chronicled. Yet, looking back nearly fifty years, I realise he expressed less emotions in his writing than would be common in this Facebook era. Therefore, we can believe him when any particular date won the simple accolade ‘prefect day’.

This causes me to ask, what is your perfect day?

For me, the day’s ingredients are a warm afternoon spent with old friends. For you it could be the attending of a sporting event or having a fun meal with the family. Whatever makes a perfect day for you, the outcome will be the same; the sense we are part of God’s beautiful world and everything is going to be OK.

Perhaps Lou Reed had it right then in the lyrics to his famous song:

Just a perfect day
Feed animals in the zoo
Then later
A movie, too, and then home

Oh, it’s such a perfect day
I’m glad I spent it with you
Oh, such a perfect day
You just keep me hanging on
You just keep me hanging on
